Fredia Helbert, Audiologist, Owner
Fredia Helbert, Doctor of Audiology has over 33 years of experience diagnosing and treating hearing loss. She is retired from the Wise county School system where she worked 30 years as the educational audiologist. She has worked in private practice in Norton and Wise County for over 25 years. She is Board Certified with the American Association of Audiology and in the state of Virginia in hearing aids, audiology, and education of the hearing impaired. She is a member of the Communication Disorders Foundation of Virginia and of the Virginia Task Force on Early Identification of Hearing loss. She has been adjunct faculty at ETSU and Radford and supervises the newborn hearing screening at Norton Community Hospital. Dr. Helbert enjoys working with local community members to help improve their lives through better hearing. Mountain Empire Hearing and Balance is an approved diagnostic site with the Virginia Department of Health for hearing evaluations for children. Fredia is a native of Wise County and graduated from Coeburn High School, received her BS in Education from King College in Bristol TN, MS in Audiology and Speech Pathology from Florida State University in Tallahassee, FL and her Doctorate in audiology from Arizona School of Health Sciences in Mesa, AZ. She is married to Glynn Helbert, retired director of Pharmacy at Norton Community Hospital and is the mother of two children and has three grandchildren. She is actively involved with Christ Lutheran Church in Wise, the Junction Center for Independent Living, and the Remote Area Medical Project.
